Artlogic

From gallery preview to Artlogic, without retyping.

Artlogic's importer (Artworks, Tools, Import) needs a spreadsheet with its exact column names, at most 200 artworks per file, plus the image files. A gallery preview is a designed PDF, so it has to be converted first. Vitryne does that: drop the PDF or paste an Artlogic private-view link, download one ZIP, import.

Why it is slow today

Previews are made to be read, not imported.

A gallery preview is a designed document: images with captions set beside or over them, in the gallery's own order and style. Artlogic's importer needs the opposite: one row per work and one column per field, under exact header names.

Bridging the two usually means copying each caption by hand, field by field, and cropping each image out of the PDF. Vitryne does that reading for you and keeps the values exactly as the gallery printed them.

How it works

Four steps from preview to Artlogic record.

  1. 1

    Add the preview to Vitryne

Drop the gallery's PDF, or paste an Artlogic private-view link. Vitryne records every work with its image, caption and price.

  2. 2

    Check and select

Search and filter the catalogue, correct anything you want, and set your own sale price where it differs from the gallery's.

  3. 3

    Export to Artlogic

Download one ZIP: a spreadsheet whose column names match Artlogic's import template, plus every image, named to match.

  4. 4

    Import in Artlogic

In Artlogic, open Artworks, then Tools, then Import. Upload the spreadsheet, then the images at the Upload images step.

The export

The columns Artlogic expects, filled in.

Artlogic's template has many columns, matched by name, and the ones you leave out are simply ignored. Vitryne fills these:

Questions about Artlogic

Which Artlogic import does this work with?

Artlogic's artwork import, the one found under Artworks, Tools, Import. It reads a spreadsheet and matches each column by its exact header name, which is why Vitryne uses the template's names rather than its own.

Is there a limit on how many works I can import?

Artlogic's importer accepts up to 200 artworks per import. When you export more, the ZIP contains one spreadsheet per 200 works (artworks-1.csv, artworks-2.csv and so on) to import one after the other.

What about the images?

They are in the ZIP. Each work's image is a JPEG named after its stock number, with no spaces, exactly as written in the Images column. At Artlogic's Upload images step, select the files in the images folder.

Artlogic asks for an .xlsx file. What do I do?

Vitryne exports a CSV, which opens directly in Excel. If the importer asks for .xlsx, open the file in Excel and save it as an Excel workbook.

The gallery sent an Artlogic link, not a PDF. Can I still use it?

Yes. Paste the private-view link into Vitryne. The works are read straight from the page, with the gallery's own high-resolution images, so no PDF is needed.

Vitryne is independent and not affiliated with Artlogic. It works alongside Artlogic: Vitryne reads the previews you receive, Artlogic manages the works you hold. Not using Artlogic? You can also export your previews to Excel.
